When vendors host booths at conferences, they almost always have giveaways, as they hope to attract people to their table, and they also want to give away something with the company's name that people will keep and use and hopefully be reminded of that company. The company hopes this at least results in increased name recognition, but ideally it helps to increase the chances of future business and revenue. But really, it seems that most of the people that come around to the tables just want to get something that they can take home to their kids as a souvenir from mom or dad's business trip. At the booth my company hosted at the conference in Portland that I recently attended, we gave away zippered pouches with a little light bulb that flashes different colors. We also had small flashlights. I don't go to things like this very often, but it dawned on me that for the first time I have kids who are old enough to appreciate such things, so I brought home some extras from our table, making sure to get enough for each kid to have one of each thing. Tonight I presented them with their items, and it went really well. They all really liked both the light bulbs and the flashlights, though we had to work hard to teach them not to shine the flashlights directly in their own eyes.
