A Spring-Like Day at Deanna Rose

Today is the last day of the polar vortex, so it is supposed to be warmer tomorrow and then hot by the end of the weekend, so Halie took the kids to Deanna Rose to take advantage of the nice weather.

They had a fun time playing and seeing all the animals.

Maybe the perspective of this photo is off since they don't seem terrified, but that looks like a freakishly large goat. They told me their favorite part of their day was seeing cows. Listing their favorite part of their day is one of the most unreliable things they tell me. Probably 75% of the time they say their favorite part of the day was eating cake. We very rarely have cake so apparently they feel free to list what they wish happened as well as what actually happened. I am really curious if they even saw a cow, if they thought this huge goat was a cow, or if they just thought fond memories of a cow were a nice think to talk about it even though they saw no cows. I'll never know, but they did seem like they had a lot of fun regardless of the actual cow situation.

After they got back, the girls took a nap, but Halie and Joshua built a mini-kite. Joshua loves kites so he was really excited about it. Halie left the kit so we can make more, though I think we might use less string for future kites. He has some impulse-control issues that make less string a more manageable option if our goals are to minimize messes and maximize circulation in his arms (and those are definitely goals). I would like to try flying a real kite with him at some point. I have never done it so have no idea how hard it is, but he is pretty thrilled with even dragging a kite along the ground so I think we would have fun no matter what.
