Happy Birthday Clara in Colorado Springs

Today Clara turned 3 years old. She was super excited about it and we started the day with birthday time. She showed three fingers to anyone who would look.

Next we went to Garden of the Gods, which is a nature area with red rocks. Although they have trails of all difficulties, we stuck to the paved trail that can accommodate a stroller.

You would think it wouldn't be that cold because the it was in the upper 40s, but it was super windy so the wind chill was more like in the 20s so we were glad we had our heavier jackets.

We all had lots of fun exploring the park.

The kids were pretty tired after all that so after lunch, we decided to drive up Pikes Peak while the kids napped. The entire road was not open due to snow, but we could go up 13 of the 20 miles.

We wished we could have gone all the way and Jason was hoping for more hairpin curves (I was fine with the very safe roads), but the view was nice from the highest point we could go. The top of Pikes Peak is where "America the Beautiful" was inspired and you can see why.

After getting back to the hotel, we took advantage of the hotel pool and went swimming. The kids loved that. It was probably the highlight of their day. Hannah made a lot of progress in doing more independent swimming too. She was pretty proud.

Since it started snowing again, we decided to get carry-out for dinner and we finished the day with On the Border. The kids' meals come with sundaes there so Clara finished the day with a special birthday treat. We can't believe how much she has grown this year. She's our silly girl who is so determined and we love her so much.
